Are people still being discriminated
against even today? In what ways? Do you, can you, do anything to stop it? Why did/does discrimination occur? Expand.
Even nowadays people are being discriminated against because some people are raised in families that lived in a time period where it was okay and normal to discriminate. People can be discriminated for the color of their skin, what they wear, religion, who they like and what they do on a daily basis. You can try to do something about it but it's hard to change peoples opinions when they're so set on something. It occurs because some people use it as a self defense mechanism and in some areas discrimination is still the norm. taraswaqout
Yes, people are still discriminated against today, but it's not as bad as it used to be. For example, by law we don't have segregation yet women aren't paid as much as men are. Another example is Muslims being discriminated against and being called terrorists because of 9/11. You can't stop others from thinking what they want but you can work on yourself and how you see others to make a small change. Discrimination occurs because people are opposed to things that are different and when someone is very different from you it's hard to understand them.
Yes people are still getting discriminated against even today. For example, women get paid less than men for doing the same job. Racial profile still occurs in today's society for their race and religion. We can stop discrimination by thinking of everyone as equal human beings. Discrimination did/ still does occur because people have a hard time understanding different cultures and customs that are different from what they know and/or practice.
People are being discrimenated everyday from racists making remarks to mentally hurt others. People mainly use racist words or actions but no punishment or harsh actions. Personally, knowing peoples actions, it would be scary to speak against them. I would rather keep quiet and call the police. Hopefully the police wouldn't be racist either. Discriminating happens for any reason, for fun, in anger, with frustration, and other bad ways.
Yes, people are still discriminated against today. Women don't get payed as much as men in their paychecks. Women's car insurance goes down sooner than men's does. Statistics show that 1 in 3 african american men can expect to be in prison some time in their life. They're easy prey for cops, like in the south side of chicago it is unlikely that the family would be able to pay legal fees. Where we live to day it's not too much of a problem, and in the examaples mentions above, there isn't much that could be done to help anyway. Discrimination can stem from people that think that any characteristics that differ from their own, are automatically bad.
As much as we don't like to think about it people are continued to be discriminated against. It isn't the same way as it once was but it still is there. As long as stereotypes are present and are used one person will always be thought of differently than others. As much as these are not always bad, they are still allowing discrimination to exist. These could be everything from race, religion, body type, or anything else that sets us apart from someone else. Discrimination will continue forever as long as we, as people, follow a set guild lines for what that person is based on what people can see about them. Andrew Sam Ben Ayanna
Yes people are discriminated against today. Whether it's getting better pay at a job, receiving a promotion, the way you dress, color of your skin, etc. There isn't much you can do about it. Discrimination is always going to be around as long as people are alive. It occurs because people have a certain type of ego about themselves and think that they are better than everyone else so they pick on them to feel better about themselves. Kyle Ryan Darius
People are still being discriminated against in little ways still today. It isn't as bad as discrimination during slavery, but it is still happening. Discrimination can occur through jokes or through racial stereotypes. Even though they are jokes, it still can offend them. It can't really be stopped because it's not as critical as before, and they think that discrimination today compared to how it used to be, isn't bad. Also, they people being discriminant, think that people aren't offended, so they keep on doing it. It occurred when people started immigrating into the US, we wanted them to be like us, so that's why we were discriminant against them back them. But today we can still be discriminate because we can still make jokes that can offend people. Sarah Marisa Nathan maddie
Yes, people are still being discriminated against, I see this every day even if it isn't as much as it was in the past people like police discriminate against minorities and other people do not get treated the way they should. I think people can stop it by trying to be more conscious of how other people feel. Dan, Mike, Casey, Javier
yes, people still discriminate even today in different ways. For example, there many social cliques in high school. Students tend to naturally stick with people with similar backgrounds. This usually means that people hang out with same ethic groups. Yes, we can try to stop it. We can have a large range of friends and more excepting towards other's cultures. Erica, So-Young, Anuhya
Discrimination is still very high today even though everyone has rights and are equal in America. We see it in the school all the time and we are all guilty if it in a way. We can do something to stop it; not encourage it and refrain from or ourselves. Discrimination occurs because other races look down on each other. Also history has played a huge role in the way races look at act towards each other. Daniel, Shawn, Chris
We think today there is still discrimination. Not as much as prior times when slavery was occurring but today there is still some of it going on. People are discriminated against about race, sex, religion, social status, age, and color of their skin. There is many ways to stop discrimination but nothing ever sticks. One of the ways to stop discrimination is to stop taking about it and addressing it, people are only reminded of it because it's being talked about. If companies allow all men and women to have equal opportunities at positions will stop discrimination in the work place. Today a women makes $.77 to every $1 a man makes that shows how men are valued more over women, that's discrimination against women. If we can address this topic and give equal pay that'll stop discrimination. Anthony Nick Francesco

Rebecca, Ashley, Nancy, Allison Yes. Discrimination occurs in a variety of different ways like social-class, culture, and race. You can stop discrimination by standing up to those who are discriminating against others and also by ensuring that you don't discriminate against others. Discrimination occurs because people tend to not like things that they don't understand or things that aren't like themselves. It is also easier for most people to be critical of others rather than try to relate to them.
